Winter might be on its way but jugs of sangria and good food in a tropical setting are just a short walk from Eastbourne seafront.
Tango in Eastbourne's Terminus Road, close to the seafront, is a brilliant restaurant to visit if you are hoping to relive a holiday dining experience.
Whether it is paella, whole sea bass, chicken, steak or a burger you are after, the menu has something for everyone.
We started with whitebait as a starter. The delicious little fish were perfectly fried with a crispy breadcrumb coating. They were served with a tartare and chilli dip. The chilli was spicy but did not overpower the delicate fresh taste of the fish. The whitebait was also served with a small salad garnish dressed with balsamic vinegar.
Other starters include soup, calamari and chicken wings and they are all reasonable priced and can be ordered as a main course-sized portion if required.
The main course menu really gets the taste buds going. The sirloin steak, which was matured for 21 days, was beautifully cooked and served with some of the crispiest chips I have eaten. The majority of the main courses are served with grilled vegetables which makes a nice change. The peppers, aubergine, courgettes were a lovely accompaniment to the meal.
The piri piri chicken was also excellent and the staff at Tango did not lie when they put a 'hot hot' warning next to the dish as it appeared on the specials menu. This is definitely one to try for chilli lovers!
The chicken, which was a butterflied breast grilled to perfection, was served on a flatbread with chips and the same grilled vegetables.
Portion sizes are ample for the starters and main courses but there is also a range of side dishes to compliment your meal at Tango. Choose from a range of sides including a side portion of aromatic rice to go with your spicy chicken or a side salad.
And there is also a great range of desserts at the restaurant. If you have room, cheesecake, tiramisu and ice-cream are just some of the tempting delights on the menu.
There is a good wine list at the restaurant which caters for all tastes and budgets. There are four or five wines served by the glass and bottles are reasonably priced. Tango offers a range of flavoursome reds including a delicious Chilean cabernet sauvignon which perfectly matches a good steak.
Tango has a real holiday atmosphere with tropical, tasteful decoration. The lighting is soft and very atmospheric with jazz music, played at a good volume, helping to set the mood. The restaurant is perfect for a romantic meal and when we dined on a Sunday night the place was full of couples.
